George Ariyoshi, Hawaiʻi's third governor and the first Asian American to hold such an office in the United States, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, at the age of 100.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Governor Ariyoshi's leadership from 1974 to 1986 was marked by a steadfast commitment to the people of Hawaiʻi, guiding the state through significant economic transitions with humility and integrity.
